2.05.1 - Chair
This job description is applicable to the Chair of the Board of Directors of Calgary Rotary Challenger Park Society (CRCPS). This description is in addition to the general board duties.
General Duties:

Provides leadership to the Board

Oversees board and executive committee meetings

Ensures effective action of the board in governing and supporting CRCPS

Oversees the affairs of the board

Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees

Acts as a representative of the board as a whole, rather than as an individual supervisor to staff.

Establishes a search and selection committee for the hiring of a Senior Staff Officer (SSO). Convenes board discussions on evaluating the SSO and negotiating compensation and benefits package. Acts as a liaison between the board and the SSO.
Community:
Speaks to the media and the community on behalf of Calgary Rotary Challenger Park Society, as does the Executive Director (ED) represents CRCPS in and to the community.
Meetings:
Develops agendas for the meetings in concert with the ED Presides over the board meetings or appoints someone to preside over the meeting in her/his absence.
Committees:

Recommends to the board which committees should be established

Seeks volunteers for the committees and coordinates individual board member assignments

Ensures that each committee has a committee chair. Stays in touch with the committee chair to be sure that the committee’s work is progressing.

Identifies (with committee chair) what committee matters should be presented to the board.

Determines whether executive committee meetings are necessary and convenes the committee as appropriate.

Ensures committee adheres to its terms of reference
Board Affairs:
Ensures that board matters are handled properly, including pre-meeting materials, committee activities and the recruitment and orientation of new board members.
